When choosing a hospital for the birth of your baby, look for the "High 5 for Mom & Baby" symbol.  Hospitals desplaying this symbol have policies and maternity care practices that are supportive of your decision to breastfeed your baby.  A "High 5 for Mom & Baby" hospital will help you and baby get off to a good start!

Report harassment while nursing in public.  You can call the "NIPS" Hotline and the KS Department of Health & Environment's hotline.  Kansas has a law protecting a mother's right to breastfeed "anywhere she has the right to be.".

The decision to breastfeed your infant is one of the first decisions you will make as a parent of a newborn. Breastfeeding provides the best possible nutrition for your infant and allows you special uninterrupted time to bond with one another. Breastfeeding can be easy; it is just a skill that mom and baby have to learn. Breastfeeding specialists and consultants can help mothers who have questions or difficulties with breastfeeding.
